Quilted, Patchwork

I see the metaphor of piecing as a model for the organization of language. Throughout their history, quilts have been markers of social and personal history.  The time spent constructing a quilted piece or patchwork is in itself a symbolic

passage. Stories and events are embedded in the fabric through the use of carefully selected materials, old clothes, or personal mementoes. As the primary tool for making quilts, the needle replaced the pen as a narrative instrument.
